Scooter fans take a trip down memory lane

IT LOOKS like Brighton sea front in the 1960s

But this picture was taken in the car park of a South Yorkshire Pub.

Dozens of scooter enthusiasts climbed aboard their Lambrettas and Vespas and packed the car park of the Monkwood Hotel in Rawmarsh. The event, organised by Shaun Angel of Rotherham Scooter Club, saw around 70 vintage machines setting off to Elsecar Heritage Centre to raise money for soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

And they were back at the Monkwood by early evening where several donated prizes were raffled off.

Phil Deakin, a member of the Rotherham Scooter Club, said: "It was great day but we were a bit disappointed in the weather. I'm sure there would have been 200 to 300 scooters setting off for Barnsley if the weather had been a bit better."

The club is now busy organising their next big meet - camping in Catcliffe - at the Waverley pub on Saturday May 31.
