Scimitars tight suit ice breaker for computer game
ON the ice or on the computer screen - Sheffield Scimitars rule supreme.
And to prove it players from the ice hockey team have teamed up with Sheffield-based games company Distinctive Developments to work on a new sporting computer game.
Three Scimitars players spent four hours at IceSheffield being filmed using motion capture technology as they performed different moves for the ice hockey game.
Scimitars players James Archer, Ben Bowns and Peter Slamiar each had to wear skin tight suits with reflective "dots" placed on every joint to ensure their real-life movements were captured realistically.
The footage will be used to transfer players' motions into animated characters in the ice hockey computer game - a system similar to technology used in the current blockbuster film Avatar.
Distinctive Developments' Managing Director Nigel Little approached the Scimitars to help them create the game for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.
And the Scimitars jumped at the chance to be involved.
James said: "This is really exciting and fun to do, I feel like I should be in Hollywood with all these cameras and computers around the rink."
And Ben added: "I'm looking forward to seeing how my net minding style is going to be played out in the computer game when it's launched next month."
