MORE than 300 years of education in a Sheffield village will be commemorated with the unveiling of a plaque.

The event will take place at the old school in Bolsterstone, which closed in 1992 and is now the village hall.

Marjorie Hirst, aged 97, the oldest former pupil of the school, will be unveiling the plaque on Sunday afternoon, which is dedicated to the old Bolsterstone Free School, founded in 1686 and the National School, which opened in 1852. A reunion picnic for former pupils is also planned later in the year. For information, contact Jill Hobson at castlearmstrong@yahoo.com or by calling 0114 2883656.
