AN ICE cream seller has been granted permission to site his van outside a Sheffield school despite complaints it would be against the headteacher’s healthy eating policy and could be a road safety hazard.

Peter Devoti had applied for consent for a static trading place on Siemens Close, Tinsley, where he currently drives to pick up custom.

But Karen Wilson, head of Tinsley Nursery Infant School on Siemens Close, had objected to the application to park his ice cream van on the street outside for an hour each afternoon Monday to Friday.

Sheffield Council’s licensing board considered her letter, which stated ice cream was not healthy for pupils and the vehicle could obstruct people crossing the road.

But councillors approved Mr Devoti’s application.
