School pupils to welcome entrepreneurs
A GROUP of Sheffield sixth form girls are hosting a get-together for leading women entrepreneurs in the city centre this weekend.
The students from Broom-hill's Birkdale School are welcoming delegates to the UK Working Women Expo 2008 at the Mercure St Paul's Hotel.
The one-day event on Sunday rounds off National Enterprise Week and the National Women's Enterprise Day, and will be opened by the Lord Mayor Coun Jane Bird.
The girls are all members of Birkdale's Enterprise Club. The aim of the club is to nurture successful teenage entrepreneurs and explore the possibilities of commercially developing their business ideas.
"The many facets of the Enterprise Club and the events we participate in gives us an amazing opportunity to explore our career choices in 'real world' situations, enhance our university application forms and apply our business knowledge," said sixth former Hannah Atter, who would like to become a fashion designer.
At the event there will be inspirational talks on topics affecting working women. Yorkshire-born Valerie Dwyer, an international Champion for Women's Enterprise, will be the keynote speaker. There will also be 50 stands, all geared towards the working woman.
