FORGET about swings and slides – a Sheffield park has just installed something far more adventurous.

A climbing boulder has been unveiled at Green Oak Park in Totley, giving youngsters the chance to try their hand at scaling heights, and providing a challenge for more experienced climbers.

The boulder was made by Sheffield-based firm Zig Zag Climbing Walls, which also built and installed two smaller boulders for younger children.

The structures are made by blasting concrete on a frame and then hand-carving it to resemble real rock, and feature carved fossils and holds for climbers to grip onto.

Funding was secured by the Friends of Green Oak Park. Similar boulders are already at Darnall and Richmond Parks, and Osgathorpe Park in Pitsmoor.

Amie Rowland, Sheffield parks regeneration officer, said she was “really impressed” with the boulder.
