Look who’s coming to town weeks early...

Chris Cringle himself is set to get residents in the mood for Christmas when he arrives at a Woodseats event.

Organisers of a fundraising fair must have been very good this year, as Santa Claus has agreed to pay a visit on Saturday, November 23.

It might be his most hectic time of the year but Father Christmas will take time out of his busy schedule to make an appearance at the Double Six Youth Club in Scarsdale Road.

But to ensure his reindeer get a good rest ahead of December 24, Santa is swapping his traditional sleigh for an open-topped car.

He’ll be at his grotto ready to greet youngsters from 11am.

And for adults there will be the chance to get stocked up on gifts and decorations early with the Christmas stalls which will be set up in the building.

There will also be mince pies, carol singing and face-painting on the day.

The Christmas fair has been organised by Woodseats Musical Theatre Company to bring the community together and raise much-needed funds to keep the club afloat.

Chairwoman Mary Newey said: “We’re very lucky to have got Father Christmas to come this year.

“It’s quite an important event for us in terms of fundraising but it’s also a way for us to get people feeling Christmassy.

“Our members will be there and we’ve had a lot of interest from stallholders, so there should be something for everyone.”

The group is also preparing for another festive event in the form of its annual Christmas show at Abbeydale Sports Club, Abbeydale Road, on Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30.

Tickets are still available for the musical extravaganza– priced £12 for the show and pie and peas, or £8 without.

Mary said: “What better way to start Christmas than with an evening of songs from the world of theatre?”
