A new scheme to help Sheffield jobseekers find work has been launched by The Salvation Army.
The organisation has started an Employment Plus Local programme in Woodhouse which offers support with IT skills, finding work placements and further learning opportunities.
Captain Stephen Noble, from The Salvation Army Church (Corps) on Tannery Street, Woodhouse, where the scheme is based, said: “We recognise that unemployment is a cause of poverty along with social exclusion and we believe this scheme enables us to offer the practical and emotional support jobseekers in this community need. We only launched a few months ago and already we’ve found work for people who had been unemployed for a long time.
“It’s wonderful to see all the people we’ve helped so far and know that we can make a real difference to so many others. Now, it’s just a case of letting local people know the service is here for them.”
The scheme runs on weekday afternoons between 2pm and 5pm.
