Sales soar at businesses as visitors flock to the city

Businesses across Sheffield enjoyed a bumper weekend thanks to trade from Tour spectators.

Pubs and food outlets at busy spectator hubs were the biggest beneficiaries of the influx of customers, although staff faced longer hours.

The Old Horns pub in High Bradfield had its busiest ever weekend, with some visitors staying until Monday, and the local ale selling out.

“I wish we could have thousands of people every weekend”, said landlord John Wyne.

In the city centre Mexican food outlet Street Food Chef said sales at its Pinstone Street outlet on Saturday were up by half.

Moss Valley Fine Meats sold to 500 customers at Wincobank and 300 at a Bradfield campsite, as well as supplying 1,000 rashers of bacon to the village post office and cafe.

Owner Steven Thompson said: “It’s all money going into local businesses so it was well worth it.”
