A South Yorkshire sailing club is set to enter the record books when it takes part in a mass challenge in memory of a man who lost his life in training.

Ulley Sailing Club in Pleasley Road, Rotherham, will aim to help smash the Guinness World Record for the most sailors on the water at any one time.

The Bart’s Bash event is a sailing race that will be run by clubs all around the world on behalf of charity The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.

Each sailing club will sail an individual Bart’s Bash race at their location.

The event is in honour of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson who died in San Francisco in May 2013 while training for the Americas cup.

The club will hold the race this Sunday at its base at Ulley Reservoir at 11am.
