A VILLAGE cricket club is taking action to protect the safety of people living next to their ground from the dangers posed by big-hitting batsmen.
Stainborough Cricket Club, Barnsley, is considering placing a 9m-high safety net on the boundary with nearby bungalows to prevent balls hit for six soaring into the back gardens.
The move follows complaints to Stainborough Parish Council from two nearby residents about the dangers from hard cricket balls to themselves and their families using neighbouring back gardens.
The cricket club has now been told by parish councillors that the villagers living next to the cricket ground have no objections to the proposed safety net.
Planning permission is now being sought from Barnsley Council to set up the nets.
