Sacked BBC Radio Sheffield presenter in claim for lost wages
FORMER Radio Sheffield presenter Gareth Evans is set to sue the BBC after being summarily sacked over a row prompted by a parking ticket.
The DJ has submitted a claim for breach of contract worth thousands after being fired by the station with months of it still left to run.
His solicitors, Browne Jacobson of Nottingham, have written to station bosses demanding a settlement. If they refuse, the claim could end up in court.
The row blew up in January after Mr Evans, aged 39, of Everton, near Bawtry, emailed Bassetlaw Council after his wife received a parking ticket.
Council chiefs contacted BBC bosses and he was suspended. A week later they terminated their agreement with Mr Evans' production company Parsley Pyjamas.
It is understood the dispute will hinge on whether the contents of the emails constitute a breach of the BBC's code of conduct.
Alan Radford, of Browne Jacobson, said: "Gareth Evans does not accept he has breached the code or his obligation to the BBC and is pursuing a claim. His contract had many months to run.
"We will be asking the BBC to settle, but the matter could go to court."
Fans of the presenter accused the BBC of double standards after Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand avoided the sack following offensive prank calls broadcast on national radio.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "It would not be appropriate to comment on this matter."
Mr Evans also did not want to comment.
