Sack organiser and give our entry fees to charity

Have your say

I would like to express my deep disgust at the complete lack of organisation and communication of the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Margaret Lilley should be immediately sacked from her role as event organiser. To blame suppliers not delivering the water on the morning of the race is a shocking excuse. The water should have been delivered to EISthe day before as EIS was closed to all runners on Sunday morning, so there would have been plenty of room to store it.

Also, the official line is that we were delayed by 30 minutes. The fact of the matter is that we lined up at 8.45 as instructed and set off “unofficially” at 10am.

No doubt the blame will be passed from pillar to post in order to save her job.

It was disappointing from South Yorkshire Police as they tried to stop runners and block the course.

We weren’t doing this for our own financial gain, we had no ulterior motives for running other than doing our very best for our chosen charities.

The one silver lining from all this is that it showed the incredible spirit of every runner who decided to join the rebellion and fulfil our commitments. Also, the fantastic spirit of the wider Sheffield community who ran into shops to buy water for runners. Shops and restaurants also gave out free water, truly inspiring from all.

I feel all runners should receive a full refund of their entry fee, or every runner’s entry fee should be donated to charity by the organisers, as the fee is for the race organisation, which was lacking to say the very least.
