A Sheffield group is raising funds for two Palestinian charities, by organising a 24-hour community run in Meersbrook Park.
Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign is working with Heeley Development Trust on the Small Park Big Run event, which will be held in the city on June 10 and 11.
Funds raised from the run will be donated to Gazan Children’s Projects and the Sheffield Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund, in the hopes they will help to facilitate Palestinian children’s play and education, and women’s university education.
Co-organiser Caroline Poland said: “The densely populated Palestinian refugee camp Tulkarm is the same size as Meersbrook park but is home to an eye-watering 21,000 people.
“By running continuous, monotonous laps of the park - including a very steep hill - we want to draw attention to the difficulties and daily grind of life that Palestinians experience.”
The run will be held noon on June 10 to noon on June 11, and is open to all. Entrants can run, jog or walk circuits of the park, picking shifts between 30 minutes and 24hrs - with at least two runners on the course at all times over the 24hrs. Aftwerwards there will be one free ‘Fun Run’ lap.
