Runners from Sheffield’s cancelled half marathon are being offered a discounted entry fee for another race.
Runners can take part in the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon in September at a reduced cost of £25, or £15 for the half marathon route, after the Sheffield event was called off due to a lack of water.
Mike Hyman, founder of the marathon and Kids N’ Cancer, which the race raises money for, said: “We have great sympathy for both the runners and organisers in the cancellation of the Sheffield Half Marathon after everyone had put in a lot of hard work in the build-up.
“We wanted to offer our support by providing a discount to those runners to provide them with a race in the region of similar distance.”
Organisers behind the Sheffield half marathon say they have no further update on their investigation into the fiasco 11 days ago. They are involved in a row with water supplier Water Direct, which says it was not paid in advance as required.
