KEEN runners are being urged to sign up for a jog through a South Yorkshire park to help raise money for cancer research.

Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club is holding the event in the town’s Locke Park, on Sunday, March 25.

One of the organisers is retired Barnsley Council chief executive and former rotary club president, Philip Thompson.

Mr Thompson, participating in the six-mile challenge at the age of 77, said: “We are supporting the Prostate Cancer Charity’s 10,000 Challenge, to commemorate 10,000 men who died from the cancer in Britain last year.

“The run will be informal, from the car park, and we just want people to come along - there’s no need to book in advance.”
