IT’S in the blood.
Rudi Thompson lives in Wandsworth, just a short distance away from Stamford Bridge, the Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane.
But when it came to football there was only ever going to be one direction this young man was going to take.
Footy mad Rudi was always going to home in on a certain stadium in S6.
And like generations of kids before him, that choice was somewhat influenced by his dad.
Rudi’s dad, you see, is Tom Craig, Sheffielder, actor and, first and foremost, dyed in the wool Wednesdayite.
Tom, real name Craig Thompson, is well known for his many TV appearances and just as well known for his many appearances at Hillsborough.
But for Rudi, who will be nine in March, the recent game versus Hartlepool marked his Hillsborough debut. So what did he think?
“Well first of all it was cold,” said his dad. “I thought that might put him off. And during the first half I didn’t think he was taking any notice.
“But when I asked him who his favourite player was he told me straight away - JJ. So he must have been watching.”
Tom says he couldn’t blame the lad if he was tempted to support the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal as so many of his mates at school do. But what about the possibility of Rudi becoming a Blade? “Absolutely no chance,” said dad, “I’ll see to that.”
Tom is currently preparing to film a part in British movie Hyenas.
Then he’ll be off to Canada to make the next series of the Murdoch Mysteries.
Tom plays the part of Inspector Brackenried and has a cult following in Canada.
But he’ll be around when Wednesday take on United later this month.
