AN RSPCA Sheffield pet microchipping day proved so popular an extra date has been arranged to allow pet owners to have their cats and dogs chipped at a reduced rate of only £5 per pet.
The normal cost of microchipping a cat or dog is £12.
The event is being held today from 12.30pm to 4pm at the RSPCA Sheffield Animal Centre at 2 Stadium Way, Attercliffe.
RSPCA manager Stella White said: “Microchipping your pet gives it the best chance of being identified and returned to you if they become lost or stolen.
“Microchipping identifies your pet permanently and harmlessly – unlike collars or tags which can cause injury if caught or be removed if the pet is stolen.
“A tiny chip is gently inserted under the animal’s skin to give the pet its own unique code.
“The microchip can then be scanned and matched to the owner’s contact details which are kept on a database such as the national PetLog database.”
All the owner has to do is make sure they keep their contact details up-to-date on the database.
