A RETIRED lecturer from Sheffield will meet the Queen today, at the Royal Maundy Service at York Minster.

Carmen Franklin was nominated by the Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft, to receive the Maundy Money – one of 86 women and 86 men to receive the honour, one for each of the Queen’s 86 years.

Mrs Franklin, who is part of the congregation at St John’s, Chapeltown, said: “It is a very great honour to receive this award.

“I couldn’t believe it when I found out. I just hope I do not disgrace myself!”
