I have just seen the photograph in this week’s Retro regarding Sir Patrick Duffy in Royal Navy uniform taken at HMS Royal Arthur, (Butlins Skegness), in 1940.
This brought to mind my reading a while ago of an alleged attack on the place by the Luftwaffe during that year, that apparently led to German radio propaganda being broadcast to the effect that the “ship” HMS Royal Arthur had been sunk in the attack despite it being a shore base!
As a consequence of which, I was wondering if any readers, (or indeed Sir Patrickhimself?), can verify the story?
