A ROW blew up at a parish council meeting over a proposal to rename a suburb’s community room after a Liberal Democrat city councillor who died 20 years ago.
It happened at Ecclesfield Parish Council during a discussion over a recommendation to transfer the name of the former High Green Library currently known as the David Chadwick Centre to the nearby community room.
Coun Sheila Constance, a Labour member, said she thought it was a ‘waste of money’. Fellow Labour member, Coun Kath Granger, said the names of other former councillors should be considered.
Lib Dem Coun Graham Oxley said there would be no cost involved as someone had offered to pay for the new sign. The recommendation to change the name was approved.
