SHEFFIELD waste contractor Veolia has apologised to a pensioner after binmen refused to empty her bin because it contained curtains, old shower hoses and a wooden box – claiming they were not household waste.
Vicky Cutts, of Falkland Road, Ecclesall, said: “What are my items called if not household? I rang Veolia and was told it was basically only kitchen waste, such as packaging from food and food waste that should go into the black bin.”
A Veolia spokeswoman said: “Mrs Cutts’ black bin has now been emptied. We would like to apologise to her for any inconvenience this has caused.
“All household waste placed inside a black bin will be collected, except where waste is visible above the top preventing the lid closing and where the container is too heavy to move safely.”
