A South Yorkshire village is getting a kick out of sport thanks to the official opening of a £500,000 all weather pitch.

Volunteers at Kiveton Park and Wales Community Development Trust spearheaded a campaign for the new sports park to get more people active.

The project is being highlighted to promote a new £10 million fund for ‘community businesses’ set up by local people to tackle local problems.

The fund is being run by the Power to Change charitable trust.

Steph Hryschko, chairman of Kiveton Park and Wales Community Development Trust, said: “We are most proud that this has been achieved by the determination and hard work of a group of local community volunteers. Once we had the support and funding of Power to Change we were then able to access other funding from Sport England and steel company, Harsco, to build this amazing facility.”
