A ROAD in Rotherham has been closed for roadworks to repair potholes.
Long Lane, which links Treeton with the A631 West Bawtry Road, has been closed on safety grounds since last Friday, after heavy rain caused serious damage to the road surface.
Rotherham Council said repairs, due to start today, are needed to a 600 sq metre stretch of the road, which runs under the M1 motorway.
A council spokeswoman said: “Prolonged long periods of rainfall caused massive surface damage.
“Highway inspectors from Rotherham Council had no option, but to close the road on safety grounds.
“Rotherham Streetpride is planning to plane off 600 sq metres of the road before re-surfacing it.”
The work is due to be completed on Monday.
