The mayor of a South Yorkshire borough has resigned, citing ‘personal reasons’.

Coun Barry Dodson, Rotherham borough mayor, resigned on Friday.

Coun Maggi Clark, deputy mayor, has assumed his duties in the short-term.

The authority said councillors will elect a new mayor ‘in due course’.
