A lifeguard from Rotherham has made a splash as part of a winning lifesaving team in a national competition.
Stephen Ward, who works at Rotherham Leisure Complex, was part of the Team Yorkshire which won the Royal Lifesaving Society emergency response championships seniors category at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield city centre.
The four-strong team, who were competing in their first competition, were given a scenario and had two minutes to carry out lifesaving work.
Stephen, aged 34, said: “We did really, really well, and are hoping to compete together at the European Championships next year.”
Daniel Mogg, general manager at Rotherham Leisure Complex, congratulated Stephen on his ‘fantastic achievement’.
He said: “We are honoured to have one of the top lifeguards in the UK working here.”
