A dozen Rotherham families are due to have new homes thanks to a new council housing scheme.
Councillor Rose McNeely, cabinet member for safe and attractive neighbourhoods for Rotherham Council, will officially unveil a commemorative plaque and cut a ribbon tomorrow to mark the opening of a new block of flats at Manvers Lakeside.
The block at Starling Close has been purchased by Rotherham Council from developers Taylor Wimpey as part of a project where Taylor Wimpey agreed to build new affordable homes as part of its Lakeside development.
Rotherham Council will own and manage the new homes.
Coun McNeely said: “These are fantastic new apartments for local people who want a council home.
“These much-needed affordable apartments will enable Rotherham Council to maintain a healthy housing stock in the area.
“Taylor Wimpey is also offering government-backed incentive schemes to enable people to buy homes on this development.
“This is a great example of how Taylor Wimpey and Rotherham Council are supporting the local economy by building new homes and offering local employment opportunities.”
