The founder of a Rotherham based academy has won the Young Entrepreneur award in recognition of her achievements over the past year.
Jessica Long, aged 19, from Parkgate, received the grand prize at the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards after her business – JL Dance Academy – was also named ‘Best New Start Up’.
She offers a variety of dance classes, including ballet, street dance and Zumba.
Jessica said: “I’m really pleased to receive the awards which is a real boost for the academy, particularly as we reach the two year mark.
“It has been a whole team effort to grow the business. Not only the teachers but the students too.”
She was presented with a trophy, a cheque for £1,000 and a year’s free membership to Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber in recognition of her achievements.
Other categories including Most Innovative Business, Best Established and Most Determined to Succeed saw winners receive a cheque for £500 to help grow their businesses.
Darren McDool, Business Coach from Rotherham Youth Enterprise, said: “The calibre of the candidates that entered this year has again been exceptional. We have a fantastic mixture of creative new starts and growing established businesses, representing the increasing number of entrepreneurial young individuals in our region.”
Jackie Frost, Manager for Rotherham Youth Enterprise and Enterprise Projects Manager at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, added: “Previous winners of the award have gone to do great things, capitalising on the exposure that this accolade provides, so it is with great pleasure that we celebrated the exceptionally strong group of candidates in this years shortlist.”
