A Rotherham councillor has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a public event.

Andrew Roddison, Labour councillor for Brinsworth and Catcliffe, was found guilty at Leeds Magistrates Court this afternoon following a report he sexually assaulted a woman at an event back in May this year.

Roddison, 41, of Flatts Lane, Treeton, Rotherham, pleaded not guilty to the charges at the trial this afternoon but was found guilty by the judge.

He has been bailed and will be sentenced at Leeds Magistrates Court on December 1.

The sexual assault happened at a council event after a parade in Rotherham.

Sergeant Sharon Hulley, the leading officer on the investigation, said: “An investigation into Roddison was launched after the victim reported the abuse that had happened at a public event.

“He is now being punished for his actions and I hope the victim feels justice has been achieved today.

“If anyone has been a victim of sexual assault please do not hesitate to contact police on 101, or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Roddison and Rotherham Council have been contacted for comment.
