Rotherham care home receives '˜Good' rating from CQC

Davies Court care home in Dinnington received the second highest possible marks from the Care Quality Commission.

The Rotherham Council-run facility, which specialises in caring for people with dementia, was found to be ‘safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-run.’

Inspectors praised the ‘relaxed and friendly atmosphere’ and staff were described by residents, relatives and inspectors as being ‘professional and welcoming’.

The report also praised the home for involving residents in the planning and reviewing of their care, who are ‘encouraged to be as independent as their care needs allow’.

Councillor David Roche, cabinet member for adult social care and health, congratulated care home staff and said: “This is fantastic news for residents and staff at Davies Court.

“The CQC inspectors were particularly impressed with the ‘caring, responsive and friendly’ support offered by staff, and saw for themselves how contented, safe and well cared for all the residents are.”

He added: “We know that Davies Court provides valuable, specialist care to people with dementia and this latest inspection confirms the high quality of care at this home.

“It’s great for everyone involved with Davies Court to have this officially recognised, and reassuring for families to know that residents are well cared for here.”

Davies Court also recently teamed up with a school as part of an innovative new project.

A pilot of the ‘Adopt a Care Home’ scheme saw pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Dinnington learn more about dementia in school, before visiting residents at the care home to work on a memory book project over a number of weeks.

Coun Roche said: “This scheme is unique, as it delivers benefits to children and people with dementia at the same time.”
