A street beggar who asked people for money at a South Yorkshire train station was asked to pay fifty pence in compensation by magistrates.

Michael Faulkner, aged 45, of Trough Drive, Thrybergh, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to begging in Rotherham town centre.

Faulkner was asking people for money at Rotherham railway station on May 31 this year.

He was ordered to pay 50p compensation by Rotherham Magistrates Court, as well as £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
