RUSH hour traffic was congested after a roof fire closed a major road in Sheffield yesterday evening.
Three fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze which broke out in the roof of a terraced property on Abbeydale Road.
The incident, which was reported at about 4.30pm, closed Abbeydale Road at the junction with Bedale Road to traffic heading towards the city.
Traffic was diverted down Bedale Road.
A fire control spokesman said: “What is believed to be a residential property was on fire in an incident involving the guttering and roof.
“There were three pumps there from Central and Darnall stations and a command support unit with one main jet in use.”
He added that it was not thought any people were injured in the incident.
The fire was extinguished by 5.15pm.
