YOUNGSTERS from Sheffield are set to perform a steel city version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
The Inyerface Theatre Company, which has actors aged between 11 to 18, will perform their production of the classic play in the Library Theatre on Friday, June 24, as part of the Sheffield Children’s Festival.
The version was written by Charlotte Proctor and originally performed by students at Heritage Park Community School.
It is a contemporary musical version of the tale of star crossed lovers which retains all the original Shakespearean plot and phrase structure, but is delivered in Sheffield dialect.
The Capulets have become Chavs and the Montagues are Moshers. The action is centred on Fargate with Romeo eventually being banished to Rotherham.
