A busy Sheffield road was closed for over an hour yesterday after a man threatened to jump from a bridge.

The A6102 Herries Road was closed to traffic in both directions from just before noon and re-opened at 1pm.

The man, who was threatening to jump from the Five Arches Bridge, was returned to safety by police.

Queues built up between the Wordsworth Avenue junction and the A61 Penistone Road North junction.

Nobody was hurt in the incident. The man has not been named.
