The road between Conisbrough and Rotherham was closed early yesterday after a telegraph pole was felled by a crashed car.

Police were called to Sheffield Road, near the Hill Top pub, at 4.45am when an overturned Vauxhall Vectra was spotted in a field.

The driver, a 23-year-old Rotherham man, was taken to hospital with a cracked rib, say police.

The road was closed for about three hours until the pole could be removed.
