A RUNDOWN riverbank on the edge of Sheffield city centre looks set to be revitalised into a new public park.
Sheffield Council is planning to transform empty land between Nursery Street and the River Don in a scheme which would also improve flood defences.
The plans are a scaled-down version of an earlier scheme, which involved closing the road and creating a stepped park down to the water’s edge.
Businesses on the Wicker were initially angered when the scale of the project was reduced, as the revised plans included a concrete wall along the bank.
But further changes mean a brick wall will be constructed instead.
The plans were set to be approved by the city centre, south and east planning board today.
