WILDLIFE enthusiasts are doing their bit for Sheffield and Rotherham’s waterways.
Volunteers from the Wildlife Trust and the River Stewardship Company are conducting a series of surveys along the River Don and the Sheffield and Tinsley canal as part of the Environment Agency’s Catchment Walkover Project.
They will conduct river walks to collect information on the modifications to the river, bank-side vegetation and possible sources of river pollution. The information will give the Environment Agency a better picture of issues along the Don and help it to prioritise resources in the future.
Adam Rollitt, of the River Stewardship Company, said: “This is one of the many projects focused on restoring Sheffield’s waterways and highlights the importance the city places in its rivers.”
