A CAMPAIGN group has been launched which aims to help secure improvements to Sheffield’s canals and rivers.

The Friends of the Blue Loop hopes to give volunteers ‘a greater say’ in the work of the Blue Loop Project and has six people on its committee.

The Blue Loop project aims to conserve and promote an eight-mile section of the River Don and Tinsley Canal between the city centre and Meadowhall by engaging residents in a ange of practical conservation and environmental education activities.

A spokesman for the newly-established friends group said: “The project has worked with more than 7,000 individuals including schools, community groups and a diverse group of volunteers which includes Burmese refugees, job seekers, pensioners and students.”
