BUS passengers in outlying districts of Barnsley are to receive a boost with new services and new routes.
Improvements will affect links to areas including Grimethorpe and Hemsworth.
The changes, which come into operation from Tuesday, July 24, are being introduced by Stagecoach in response to suggestions made by customers in passenger surveys.
Alterations will also be made to timetables on other services to improve punctuality.
A new service 27/27A will run from Barnsley to Grimethorpe, Great Houghton and Wombwell, replacing services 33 and 33A, meaning that, together with services 28, 29 and 30, up to five buses an hour will run between Barnsley, Shafton and Grimethorpe.
Service 28 from Barnsley to Pontefract via Grimethorpe and Hemsworth is a new route replacing the current 35.
A new service, X28, will provide a faster journey between Barnsley and Hemsworth by operating via Cudworth bypass and running directly between Shafton and Brierley. The route between Hemsworth and Pontefract will be the same as the current 35.
Services 29/29A will operate on a new route from Barnsley to Cudworth, Shafton, Grimethorpe, Brierley, Hemsworth, South Elmsall and Upton to Pontefract, and 30/30A is also a new route from Barnsley to Cudworth, Shafton, Grimethorpe, Brierley Park Avenue, South Elmsall and Upton.
The new routes will replace existing services 33, 33A, 35, 36, 46 and 47.
