Richard Hawley sings praises of Sheffield's musical heritage

SINGER-SONGWRITER Richard Hawley has given his backing to his home city's bid to be named England's Most Musical City.

The Arts Council has selected Sheffield to do battle against nine others for the title of Most Musical City and Coles Corner crooner Hawley is spearheading Sheffield's campaign to win the public's vote.

The city faces competition from Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Colchester, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle.

The campaign to find the Most Musical City was launched by the Arts Council's Take it Away scheme, which makes musical instruments affordable and accessible for all.

"We're thrilled that Sheffield is representing Yorkshire to compete for Most Musical City."
