Staff at a community farm in Sheffield have made a direct appeal to the thief who stole a pet tarantula.
Hannah the Mexican Red Kneed Tarantula was taken from Heeley City Farm by raiders who smashed their way through a locked glass screen to remove the tank.
Sarah Hardy, animal events and publicity co-ordinator at the farm, said staff are hoping that Hannah would be returned anonymously.
She added: “We are really concerned about Hannah’s welfare as she needs specialist care.
“It isn’t as easy as people think to keep tarantulas successfully, and we hope that she is being kept warm enough and looked after properly.
“The police are investigating but aside from that if someone were to hand her back anonymously, or if they were to find her and bring her in, we would be really grateful. We just really want her back.”
Hannah has become a popular attraction since she was bought by the farm six years ago.
Adults with learning disabilities who use the farm have been particularly saddened by her theft.
Two people have offered to donate new spiders and Sarah said staff had been ‘overwhelmed’ with the support from the public.
