WORK has stalled on a new retail park in Sheffield pending an appeal against planning conditions.

Derwent Holdings Limited, developer of the Kilner Way Retail Park, Wadsley Bridge, wants restrictions that limit the types of goods that can be sold in some of the retail units to be lifted.

Lack of progress at the site has concerned local community groups.

Sharon Ashton, of Southey and Owlerton Area Regeneration association, said: “We have been left wondering what is happening because work to complete the retail park seemed to have come to a halt leaving it half-finished.

“Nobody has heard from the developer about what is going on.”

A Sheffield Council spokeswoman said: “We are currently dealing with two planning appeals relating to this development at Kilner Way, about planning conditions relating to the type of goods that can be sold in the retail units.

“The original permissions restricted most of the units to the sale of large bulky goods. There is due to be a public enquiry next month.”

Derwent Holdings, the Isle of Man-based company which is developing the retail park, declined to comment. A spokesman said: “We do not want to prejudice the appeal.”
