A DONCASTER restaurant worker who used his bike to get to work had it stolen from a South Yorkshire shopping centre.
Jobless Krishna Sha pinched the £200 bicycle belonging to a man who worked at Doncaster Lakeside.
Sha, aged 23, of Lockwood Road, Wheatley, pleaded guilty to the theft charge when he appeared at Doncaster Crown Court and was given a 12-month community order.
The order includes 80 hours of unpaid work for the community. He must also pay £200 in compensation to the owner of the bike, which was sold and never recovered.
Prosecutor Brian Outhwaite said the owner fastened his cycle to a fence before work.
But staff operating the security cameras at the Lakeside hotel observed Sha cutting the chain and making off with it.
When police checked the CCTV footage one of the officers recognised Sha, who has previous convictions for dishonesty and resisting arrest, and he was picked up. The owner was inconvenienced as the bicycle was his only means of getting to work.
