1200 people in South Yorkshire have turned to social media to keep informed on the progress of Northern Powergrid’s new £40 million investment scheme to upgrade electricity infrastructure in the region.

The electricity distribution company’s ‘energising your economy’ campaign, which ran throughout January, was seen more than 150,000 times by local people, with 1200 clicking through to the campaign website for updates on the work, details about local traffic management and information on why the investment was important for the community.

Anna Stevenson-Trippitt, Northern Powergrid’s project engineer, said: “We want to share information with our customers about how the project is progressing and how it will bring real, long-term benefits by improving the quality and reliability of electricity supplies and completely modernising South Yorkshire’s electricity network.”

As part of the project Northern Powergrid, is currently building a new substation next to Potteric Carr, in Doncaster, to provide future power to around 40,000 customers and is installing new high voltage cables at a number of locations.
