Residents challenge councillors to come and take a look at fence plan
PLANNERS have postponed a decision on whether a Sheffield school will be allowed to erect massive fence around its perimeter - after a resident called on councillors to visit the site.
Abbeydale Grange School has applied for permission to put a 2.3metre tall fence around its grounds after inspectors said it needed to increase security.
But Millhouses resident Ted Gunby - whose children all attended the school - said councillors had to visit the site to get a true impression of the effect the fence will have on views and access.
Residents in Millhouses and Carter Knowle have written to the council complaining the fence would cut off a footpath running across the school grounds, and said the fence would make the school look like "a concentration camp".
The City Centre, South and East Planning Board will vote on the plan on September 1.
