ENGINEERS from a power company will be revisiting supply poles in Sheffield to carry out permanent repairs after thieves cut earth cables from pylons carrying 11,000 volts of electricity.
The crooks severed the earth cables on two poles crossing Beighton Marsh, in the Shirebrook Valley Nature Reserve, stealing the copper wire for its scrap value.
A spokesman for Northern Powergrid said the thieves had damaged anti-climbing guards.
He said: “Once the incident had been reported, our engineers were quickly on site to carry out repairs and reinstall the guards to the poles.
“We will be revisiting the poles to carry out permanent repairs and in the meantime there is absolutely no risk to the public.
“We would urge anyone who sees any suspicious activity to contact us or the police immediately.”
