UNION members at Remploy factories across the country have voted in favour of taking industrial action.
A ballot revealed members of the GMB union were in favour of taking strike action and action short of a strike.
A total of 79.5 per cent of GMB members balloted voted in favour of taking industrial action.
The protesters are fighting against the Government’s closure of Remploy factories across the country including in Chesterfield.
The factories employ people who are disabled and who would otherwise find it difficult to find employment elsewhere.
It is estimated the closure of the remaining 36 Remploy factories could put 1,700 people out of work.
The results of the Unite union’s ballot are expected today.
If their members are also in favour, the consortium must give the company seven days’ notice before taking action.
