People in Barnsley who use a postal vote are reminded they must provide a new sample signature every five years.
Ahead of the local government elections on May 3, Barnsley Council has written to 11,902 postal voters whose signatures require updating.
Residents have until next Monday, March 12, to respond – after which their postal vote will be cancelled and they will be able to vote only at their designated polling station.
Meanwhile Chesterfield Council is cutting the council tax discount to people with second homes or properties empty for over six months. Second homes will have a 10 per cent discount – down from 50 per cent – while owners of empty properties will have no discount at all, instead of paying 50 per cent at present.
