PEOPLE in North East Derbyshire are being reminded cardboard should not be put in their green bins when collections restart this month.
North East Derbyshire District Council will restart the collection of garden waste from Monday, March 26, in time for the beginning of the main gardening season.
The service was temporarily stopped during the winter months when garden waste is at a minimum, and also because cardboard waste – which was previously recycled in the green bin – has been collected in the burgundy bin since November 2011.
Coun Nick Foster, said: “The recyclable waste people put into their green bins is turned into compost for future re-use.
“However, new standards around the quality of composted waste have been introduced and this means cardboard can no longer be collected with the garden waste that goes in the green bin.
“People are asked to continue to put cardboard waste in the burgundy recycling bin.”
