Remember them call from mayor
LORD Mayor of Sheffield Coun Graham Oxley has urged as many members of the public as possible to attend the city's Remembrance Day service in Barker's Pool this Sunday.
Coun Oxley will lead a procession from the City Hall to the War Memorial at 11am.
The ceremony will begin with the firing of a maroon to signal the two minutes' silence. Another maroon will signal the end of the silence and will be followed by the playing of the Last Post.
The service will be conducted by the Lord Mayor's Chaplain. On parade will be ex-service personnel together with Army units and representatives of uniformed organisations in the city.
The Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant, the Master Cutler, officers of the armed services and representatives of the ex-services and other organisations on parade will all lay poppy wreaths.
Coun Oxley said: "Everyone is welcome to come and join us on Sunday to show their respect for those members of the armed forces who have given their lives serving their country, in past and current conflicts.
"We remember them and what they have given, so that we might enjoy our freedom."
Members of the public can lay floral tributes on the memorial, under police supervision, when the parade has marched past.
Hundreds of miles away, Sheffield girl Charlotte Mason will be laying a wreath at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
The 16-year-old from Chapeltown is three weeks into her Navy basic training course and will be among 600 sailors at the service.
The trainee logistician and former pupil of Notre Dame School said: "It's quite a privilege to be chosen to lay the wreath, but I am also a little nervous."
